Just because we’ve been saying this all year, we’re going to beat this dead horse a little more. Hope to hear from our good friend and Pedro non-believer sux2lose, who warned us not to get too excited after only a few Pedro starts.
No one can deny what Pedro has done so far this year. No one. And if you do, you’ve got to be smoking some real good shit.
What most fans and the media saw in his final years with the Mets was an injured player dealing with an ailing, followed by the death of his father. What everyone failed to recognize was how healthy and mentally ready he was this year and what this guy is capable of when he is. Forgotten was the fighter that Pedro really was, even when he wasn’t 100%.
Proof of this was crystal clear in the World Baseball Classic, like it or not. Nay-sayers will say it’s only the WBC, it’s not a tell-tale sign, it’s against weak competition, yada yada yada. With a guy like Pedro, you can tell right away if he is or is not right, and boy was he right.
But seemed the Mets were more worried about the backlash that would happen if they did sign him and he flunked more than paying attention to how Pedro was pitching. Instead of giving him a shot, the Mets decided it was best to assemble a motley of shit by the names of Tim Redding, Freddy Garcia, and some other worthless garbage that flat out shit the bed.
This game against the Mets was symbolic, in true Pedro fashion, symbolic of what this season has come down to for the Mets. Pedro abused the Mets to mathematically eliminate them from any hopes, though we know the Mets were really eliminated months ago.
So far in 7 starts, Pedro is 5-0 and averaging almost a strike out per inning (34 K’s in 37.2 innings) with ridiculous numbers in his past 3 starts. He’s given the Phillies a chance to win in ALL his starts this year. And given that the Mets lead the league in walks, they can’t throw a fucking strike when they need to for the life of them, Pedro has only given up a measly 6 walks.
And at the end of the day, even if Pedro wasn’t doing this great, which he is by the way, this is a guy you want to take a chance with in the playoffs. You know he will empty the tank there. It’s just a shame we have to watch him win another ring for the Phillies. Nice job Mets!
Pedro, thanks for the closure knowing you can still roll with the best of them and for sticking it in the Mets asses! We believed in you! A class act all around.

paniac, exactly! sux2lose, good point on salary, though i believe the mets could’ve haggled him for less than the 5 mil he wanted originally. they just stopped pursuing him. as for 30 teams passing on him, looking back they are all fools. omir santos, right. he’s not our savior, never said he was going to be. he did bring new blood, timely hits, more excitement back to our catching position. don’t worry, the thole posts are coming
you know what i mean, we need a strong catcher next year, and please noone bring up schneider coming back. that must not be part of the equation for 2010.
First, I am honored to get a mention in your post.
Second, I will admit that Pedro has surprised me. Whats surprised me the most is that he is going pretty deep into games. I suspect that this is a function of not starting his baseball season until August. Painiac has covered most of the other good points, so I wont repeat them. Also, lets remember that Pedro wanted some ridiculous salary back in March. And then in August he signed for a pro-rated $1M contract. Big difference. Also note that he was available to 30 MLB teams all season. Other people were passing on him for a reason. Anyway-he makes you look smart right now, but lets not forget all those Omir Santos posts……
That’s not saying a whole lot. The guys that aren’t Santana, Maine, Pelfrey, and Perez have combined to go 9-20. I would have taken anything. Pedro would have been nice, but Omar Minaya would rather spend 2.5 million on Tim Redding.
good points on the health factor, but thing is we won’t know. we’ve seen stranger things happen. anywho, even if we only got 10-15 starts out of pedro is better than the low end motley crew of guys that took the mound this year.
Pedro would not be on the roster right now if he had signed with any team at the beginning of the season. If he was asked to make over 25 starts, he would have broken down. He’s had almost a year off to get his strength back, and that’s showing right now. I highly doubt he could have maintained it over the course of a season. By the time the Phillies signed him, the Mets were already in the toilet. Pedro on the Mets really wasn’t a great idea. I don’t think he could have stayed healthy over the course of a season. If the Mets were in the same position as the Phillies, it would have been a great move. If the Mets had scooped him up, there would have been very little change in the standings for the Mets. I don’t see his presence turning the team of the last three months into a contender. Regardless, good for Pedro. I don’t even care anymore, so it’s nice to see he still has it.
