This one goes out to all our graffiti loving Mets fans, because graffiti writers are Mets fans too.
Dwight ‘Doc’ Gooden sort of took it upon himself, to tag up Citi Field. Ok, it was at the urging of a worker in the restaurant, but nevertheless graffiti.
Granted it was more in the realm of autographing, thought technically he didn’t have official permission so that makes it vandalism. The beauty of graffiti as we know it.
As it turns out, after fans blew it up on radio waves, Mets reversed course and agreed to keep and not toy Goodens ‘tag’ on the wall. This on the condition that it gets moved to a more public area and have other Mets ‘get up’ on it too and are now calling it a way to honor their past.
But even though Goodens ‘tag’ stays, graffiti writers will not be welcome.
In a message to deter graffiti writers with similar ideas, Mets P.R. man Jay Horowitz said,
“If we allow this precedent, people will be writing all over the stadium”
The fans and graffiti finally prevail, for once. Nice fucking work Doc! Way to be the first to ‘get up’ at Citi Field and not have it buffed.
