I’m sorry. In an earlier post, I hinted that you were overrated. I was hurt by your lack of production since the Home Run Derby, and I was lashing out. I know my actions were irrational, hasty and unbecoming of a knowledgeable fan, but you really had me worried for a stretch there. I wondered if all of those endorsements, the pressure to be the next face of NY, and the idiocy of trying to beat Ryan Howard in a posing contest exposed you as less than supernatural.
I was wrong, and I admit it. But you have to understand that I was hurt once before by a young third baseman. I used to love a guy named the Fonz, and you remind of him, a little (except that maybe I believe your age a bit more). The Fonz was our quiet MVP that miraculous 2000 season, which in the end was unfortunately personified by the lack of hustle of guys like Timo Perez and Todd Zeile. He had so much promise, and had a good run there, but hurt his back (I think) and just faded into obscurity (also known as hitting behind Bonds).
I see now that you are all that and a bag of Baked Lays, and I was just hating. You are the cleanup hitter these days, and Reyes and Beltran, who I endorsed over you, seem to be taking off the month of May. Thank you for not rubbing it in, and for hitting that homerun yesterday, giving a much needed cushion to our unquestioned ace, Oliver Perez.
Respectfully,
Paj One

I’m not sorry b/c I didn’t doubt you. I AM sorry that my favorite baseball organization has ingrained this pessimistic attitude into our brains over the past 20 years. Hopefully we will start to emerge from the negativity cloud now that we finally seem to have competent ownership and management. This of course leaves a vacancy for the fans of another NY franchise… I hope they drown in it
