After Phillip Humber’s pummeling yesterday Mets G.M. Omar Minaya announced that two additional pitchers will be arriving in camp tommorrow to compete for spots in the Mets starting rotation.
Today, it was announced at Tradition Field that Grover Cleveland Alexander and Jerry Koosman would be arriving in camp and join the scrum that is currently on-going to make the Mets starting five.
When asked what Minaya expected he could get out of Alexander, who has been dead for 45 years Minaya shot back, “What the f*ck, are you kidding me? We’ve got Rick Peterson. He’s a muthaf*ckin’ genius. C’mon, where’s your imagination? You never seen “Weekend At Bernie’s?” Plus I’m Omar Minaya, everything I do is f*ckin’ money.”
In response to questions about the rationale behind bringing in Met legend Jerry Koosman, Minaya said, “We figured what the hell, Jerry was down here anyway for that Met fantasy camp thing and he’s been whiffing those 60 year old white guys like it was nothing. “
“Plus, Koosman and El Duque are the same age, so how bad could he be?”
Adam Rubin at his Daily News Mets blog is also reporting that the Mets are looking into bringing back Scott Erickson for another look, as well as wooing away Roger McDowell from his job as Atlanta Braves pitching coach to be the righty compliment to Scott Schoenweis in the bullpen.
